Welcome to Arnot Manderson

Arnot Manderson was formed in January 2008 by the merger of two of the oldest and best respected stables within the Faculty of Advocates.

As well as being the largest stable at the Scottish Bar, its 11 senior and 49 junior Counsel also represent an unparalleled depth of experience across the civil and criminal business of the Scottish courts.

The Stable is absolutely committed to maintaining the highest standards of legal work, whilst continuing the very best traditions of the Bar in Scotland.

Our aim is to continue providing solicitors and other organisations with a source of first class legal expertise which can provide a cost-effective solution to their litigation and dispute resolution needs. We hope that this website will demonstrate some of the ways in which instructing our advocates can assist you in providing an excellent service to your clients.

The Range of expertise of the Faculty within one stable.

Welcome to the Arnot Manderson Advocates website.

Arnot Manderson is the largest stable within the Faculty of Advocates in terms of both members and clerking support staff.  This enables us to provide advocates with experience in all areas of litigation and advisory work.  You will find details of the specialist areas of interest of our members in this website.  Our clerking team can provide a first class service in response to all queries and instructions.  Lorna Arnot and Liz Manderson are experienced and highly respected clerks who can be relied upon to help you choose the right counsel for your case.  In making that choice, we hope you will find this website useful.

Electronic diary service available to solicitors and direct access bodies.

Arnot Manderson Advocates are delighted to be able to offer solicitors and others with direct access rights the opportunity to access counsel’s online diary system.

At the start of 2009 Arnot Manderson Advocates switched from paper to electronic diaries and all our members now operate an online diary. One significant benefit of this change is that once instructing agents have registered they can access each member’s diary simply by clicking on the link in our diaries page and entering their user name and password.

From here agents will be able to check the availability of groups of advocates or individual advocates. They can check availability for particular dates or for a range of dates up to 52 weeks at a time. They can create and save their own groups of advocates and can even check which advocates are free on specified dates.

Whilst we anticipate that this will be a very useful tool to the busy solicitor there is currently no option to add, edit or delete entries in counsel’s diary and we would recommend that in all cases agents contact a member of our clerking team should they wish to make an entry in any of our members diaries. Our clerks have a wealth of experience and can be relied upon to assist in making the right choice of counsel for any particular case. Besides advising on availability they can also provide fee quotations and indications of timescales for the return of work.
